Dimitri Payet Pays West Ham Back January Wages With Move To Marseille

Jan 31, 2017 2:11 PM

Dimitri Payet didn't speak to his West Ham teammates for eight weeks before his £25 million move back to Marseille, according to co-chairman David Sullivan.

The Hammers were initially unwilling to sell their talisman but Sullivan admitted it became near-impossible to keep Payet at the London Stadium.

“I think for the last six or eight weeks, he's not been talking to anybody in the squad,” Sullivan told BBC Radio 5Live.

“He's gone to the corner of a room for his meals and isolated himself from everybody. Before that, he was bubbly and happy, shakes everyone's hand before the match.

“Either it was a tactic or something in his head had changed. The team wanted him out. The manager, with the greatest reluctance, wanted him out. And as much as we didn't want him out, you can't go against the consensus of the team and manager.”

Payet also paid West Ham back his January wages.

Wayne Rooney Won't Be Allowed To Leave United This Season

Feb 1, 2017 4:14 PM

Wayne Rooney will not be allowed to leave Manchester United before the end of the current season.

Rooney has been the subject of interest from clubs in China's Super League.

After Morgan Schneiderlin was sold to Everton and Memphis Depay to Lyon, Mourinho does not want his squad to be further depleted, especially as United are still competing in four competitions.

Asked if the captain will still be at the club at the campaign’s close, Mourinho said: “Yeah. We don’t have players in, we don’t have players out, we lost two players from the squad. You can say Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin did not play a lot, but the reality is they played some matches, and when they did, others didn’t, and when they played, others were rested. When Schneiderlin played, it meant [Paul] Pogba, [Michael] Carrick or [Ander] Herrera didn’t.

“You lose players and sometimes it does not look important because they were not first-choice players, but in the end they’re important if someone is going to have a difficult season. I hope that’s us and we’re in the cup competitions.

“We have the Manchester City match postponed [because of the EFL Cup final], we have the Blackburn Rovers match [in the FA Cup] and if we win we will have another match to be postponed. We are in the Europa League with more matches, so our situation is really difficult.”

Southampton Signs Manolo Gabbiadini From Napoli For $18.2M

Jan 30, 2017 12:38 PM

Southampton have agreed a deal with Napoli to sign Manolo Gabbiadini for £14.6 million ($18.2 million) with a further £2.6 million in performance-related bonuses.

The 25-year-old Gabbiadini has found his opportunities limited at Napoli this season.

Gabbiadini joined Napoli from Sampdoria in 2015 and has scored 15 goals in 55 league appearances for them.

Southampton have been in need of a striker since Charlie Austin was ruled out in mid-December for three to four months with a shoulder injury.

Spurs Will Only Sign 'Special Player' During January Window

Jan 26, 2017 4:45 PM

Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham Hotspur will only dip into the January transfer market if a “special player” becomes available.

He told reporters:  “I told you from the first day of the month that we are not thinking to sign players.

“If some special player becomes available who is a very good option, then maybe, but it hasn’t happened yet.

“Nothing is impossible because a player can arrive at the last moment but I don’t believe we will sign anyone.”

Christian Pulisic Extends Deal With Dortmund Until 2020

Jan 23, 2017 1:52 PM

Christian Pulisic has extended his contract at Borussia Dortmund by a year, tying him to the club until 2020.

Pulisic, 18, has been strongly linked with Liverpool over recent months but Dortmund ruled out a potential sale last month and he has now committed his future to the German club.

"I still need to learn a lot," Pulisic said on the club's official website. "I have the best conditions for it here at Dortmund, and I have the chance to play in front of over 80,000 people. We have the best fans in the world. It can't get better than this."

Pulisic joined Dortmund in early 2015 and made his first-team debut a year later.

Crystal Palace Close To Deal With Sunderland For Patrick Van Aanholt

Jan 23, 2017 1:47 PM

Crystal Palace are close to a deal with Sunderland to sign Patrick van Aanholt in a deal that could rise to £12 million.

Van Aanholt, a £1.5 million signing from Chelsea in the summer of 2014, has been a regular in the Sunderland side since he joined but has not convinced the current manager, David Moyes, of his defensive prowess.

Palace have been without a natural, senior left-back since Pape Souaré broke his thigh bone and jaw in a car crash on the M3 back in September.

Liverpool Frustrated By Inability To Sign January Targets

Jan 23, 2017 1:28 PM

Jurgen Klopp has become frustrated by Liverpool's inability to sign any of their targets during the January transfer window.

Liverpool has struggled to begin 2017.

Despite interest in Mahmoud Dahoud of Borussia Mönchengladbach and the Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic, Klopp does not expect to make significant signings this month, although he says it is not for the want of trying. Liverpool’s main business before the transfer deadline could be to offload Mamadou Sakho, who is a target for several Premier League clubs but is proving difficult to move on.

The Liverpool manager said: “I understand it is absolutely normal that people ask whether we should have brought players in. The situation is yes, on the one side pretty simple, but on the other hand it is pretty difficult. It is not that we don’t want to bring players in. We do. But the thing is, the players we want because we think they help us, the clubs don’t sell. It is not about money in this situation, it is the winter transfer window.

“Clubs are saying ‘No, we have half a year to go, we cannot find another player like this, we prefer to take money in the summer than a few pounds more in the winter than whatever’. So it is pretty easy. You see the situation. It’s tight, it’s close, we know that, but if the right decision is not possible in signing the right player then you cannot make the wrong transfer.

“It is not as if there are 20 players out there who could make this team stronger, who are running around and are available. That is the situation. That is why I say we know the situation, we are prepared to move, but for the right player. We are not the only side who can decide the outcome of that, though, are we? The selling club makes the decision too.”

Dortmund Beats Real Madrid To Sign Alexander Isak Of AIK For $10.7M

Jan 24, 2017 11:24 AM

Borussia Dortmund have beaten out Real Madrid to sign Alexander Isak of AIK for €10 million ($10.74 million).

Isak recently became Sweden's youngest ever goalscorer at the age of 17.

Dortmund have gained a reputation for being one of the best clubs in Europe for young players, having signed and given first-team opportunities to players such as Christian Pulisic (18 years old), Ousmane Dembélé (19), Julian Weigl (21), Emre Mor (19) and Raphaël Guerreiro (23).

Borussia Dortmund sporting director, Michael Zorc, said: “Alexander Isak is a hugely-talented striker, who many top clubs in Europe wanted to sign. We are delighted that he has chosen Borussia Dortmund. Both BVB and the player himself are convinced that this transfer has great potential.”

Isak scored 10 league goals in 24 appearances for AIK during the 2017 Swedish season.

Guardiola and Aguero met at a Manchester restaurant for dinner on Thursday.

There is a lack of clarity regarding Aguero's future with City as his deal expires in 2019.

“No. We didn’t speak about the contract,” Guardiola said. “He has already a long contract here. He has a lot of money and want to invite his coach to have dinner. That is what it is.”

Marseille Pivots To Yohan Cabaye

Jan 19, 2017 1:28 PM

Marseille have turned to securing a deal for Yohan Cabaye from Crystal Palace after talks for Dimitri Payet fell through.

Marseille are sixth in Ligue 1 but, having been purchased by the American businessman Frank McCourt in October, are seeking to add to Rudi Garcia’s options this month.

The Marseille chairman, Jacques-Henri Eyraud, and the director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta, were in London this week hoping to reach a compromise with West Ham over Payet, and are expected to return with a third improved offer. Yet they have also made it known they have an interest in Cabaye.
